About the history of Apprenticeship 2000

Back in 1995, a few companies near Charlotte, NC launched Apprenticeship 2000. This region had a shortage of skilled workers. As a result, it was difficult for manufacturing to grow. An apprenticeship program was the logical solution. Over time, our partnership has grown, and we’ve developed our own skilled workforce. We’ve worked with the state and CPCC to create this program. As a leader in apprenticeships, we’ve gained national recognition. Continue on to learn more about our apprenticeship!

About what we offer

We provide career opportunities for local high school students. We offer hands-on training for specific jobs in advanced manufacturing.

Each year, we hire one new group of apprentices. This occurs at the start of the school year. So, August is our apprentice hiring month. However, this is only after we’ve conducted our pre-apprenticeship.

In addition to the hands-on training, our apprentices earn an AAS degree in Mechatronics Engineering Technology from CPCC. When apprentices graduate, they receive a Journeyworker’s Certificate from the State of North Carolina and the USDOL.

There are no contracts to join our program! And our graduates get a well-paying job right away. As a matter of fact, this job is guaranteed! Also, all partner companies also offer great benefits!

About the partner companies

As a result of the program, our partner companies gain highly skilled technicians. So, the apprentice gains an education and career, while the company gains a skilled employee. Each partner company trains apprentices for their own workforce. We offer a variety of technical trades. These include CNC Machinist, Tool & Die Maker, Mechatronics Technician, and Injection Molding Technician.
The partner companies provide onsite training at their own facilities. Our 8000-hour training program spans four years.

How it works

We work closely with local CTE counselors. As a result, these counselors may suggest us to their students. While we gain many applicants through counselors. However, students can just apply directly through our website. Since our program is primarily a youth apprenticeship, we only accept high school juniors and seniors. Also, we review some of the following criteria from applicants; completed courses in algebra and geometry, GPA, and attendance.
